Obituary For Kazuko Halliday

Mom was 93 years young. Kazuko Halliday was born January 17,1928. Much of her family background is a mystery. What we do know is, she lost her mother when she was seven, her father was a carpenter, and she was one of seven children. She was sent to live with her grandmother who raised her. She survived WWII and remembered.

She met James A Halliday, a veteran of Korea and Vietnam while he was on R&R in Japan. They were married 1951 in Japan. She survived her husband, James A Halliday, by 8 years. Kazuko was one of the first War Brides to come to Auburn, Washington. They lived in Algona, Washington. Kazuko is survived by her three children although she lost two children in her lifetime. One in Japan in which we do not know his name in childbirth and remains in the family plot there. William A. Halliday in 1984, due to a motorcycle accident, passing at the age of 30.

Surviving is, Katherine M Smith, husband Douglas N Smith, Children James and wife Pinar and Lucy, grandchildren Rocky and Riley, Matthew(deceased at age 8) and Max.Beverly J Verburg, Children Jennifer Williams, Husband Mark Williams, Grandchildren, Koby, Aidan, Madison, and twins Marcus and Wyatt. Marilyn Verburg son Jacob. Son Harold D Halliday and Partner Robert L Smith.

Mom loved life, she thoroughly enjoyed working at Heath Tecna where she was instrumental in the beginning of the business only to become Hexcel of Kent. She retired from the company. She also worked as a waitress at the Satsuma Restaurant when it was in Burien for the food and Japanese community there. Mom was stationed at various bases while dad was in the Army, Louisiana, Georgia, California, Hawaii, and Fort Lewis, Washington.

She was always a social bug who enjoyed traveling, restaurants, casinos, shopping and bingo. Mom always kept up her ties to her close friends in the Japanese community. Mom was an avid cook who loved to have Sunday family gatherings with friends too. Her famous Sukiyaki on Dads birthday, New Years Eve was a tradition. When she cooked her fried rice everyone made sure to attend.

Mom and Dad manage to acquire an Rv and travel throughout the states and finally settled, as most Snowbirds do in Yuma Arizona. They kept up a busy social life there having many get togethers with friends at their “Jim and Kay Party House.”

With the passing of her husband Mom kept up a busy social life up until the advent of the pandemic, which pretty much took all the things she loved most away from her. She stayed with Bev up until May of 2021, when her physical health began to deteriorate to the point of needing more care. She resided at the Adelina Home Care in Auburn until her passing. I cannot say enough about the care and love she received there. Mom was a very loving person full of positive joy and a smile always. She will be sorely missed by ALL that knew her.
