Obituary For Norman Harold Recla

The family of Norman Harold Recla is deeply saddened to announce his passing on June 21, 2026 at the age of 63.

Norm was born on December 14, 1962, in Detroit, Michigan, to Norman Henry Recla and Kathleen Jane Bambeck. He grew up in Livonia, Michigan with his three sisters, Suzanne, Carolyn, and Julie. Norm went on to attend Bowling Green State University to pursue a degree in Graphic Design, graduating in 1985. An accomplished athlete, Norm played football for the BGSU Falcons, winning two MAC championship titles as a Defensive End. Following his graduation from Bowling Green, he moved to Seattle, Washington, in 1989. There, he met Mary Krug, whom he married four years later. Pursuing a lifelong career in graphic design, Norm established his own sign business, Star Graphics, in 1994. He was a deeply devoted father to his children, William and Grace Recla, born in 1997 and 2000, respectively.

A man of deep creativity, Norm had a lifelong passion for music and art. He was a talented guitar player and bassist who performed in several bands (including "Almost Blue”) in Bowling Green, Ohio during the late 1980s. Throughout his life, Norm frequently showcased his artistic talents, sharing these passions with friends and family, and proudly passing both his musical and artistic gifts on to his children. He will be fondly remembered for his playful sense of humor and his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures: beautiful sunsets, good music, and the company of great friends.

He is survived by his son, William, his daughter, Grace, and his three sisters, Suzanne (Steven) Upmeyer, Carolyn (Paul) Stoecker, and Julie (Richard) Worden. He is also survived by his five nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Jack) Upmeyer, Ethan and Elizabeth Stoecker, and Nick and Rachel Worden. Norm is predeceased by his parents, Norman and Kay (Bambeck) Recla, and his dog, Max.

A celebration of Norm’s life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared with family and friends once plans are finalized. Thank you for your thoughts and condolences.
