Carl John Boness was born in the Seattle Washington area on September 12, 1937.

He was born to Oscar Ingersoll Boness and Margaret Adell Boness (Poole).

His parents got a divorce when he was a small child and remarried other people. His mother Margaret married Everett Charbonneau and became Margaret Charbonneau. He was raised with his mother and step father in the Renton/Seattle area.

He grew up in the Renton/Seattle area and graduated from Renton High School in 1955. He had three half sisters, his mother and stepfather’s daughters, Midge, Anne, and Nina Charbonneau (who changed her name to Sally). They all got married when they were older, but only Midge and Nina/Sally had children. He also had one half brother, Bob Boness, his father and step mother’s son.

After that he went to college at Seattle Pacific University and graduated in 1960. He majored in History and teaching. After that he was drafted into the military and joined the United States Army. He served from around 1960 to 1963. He did training in California and Massachusetts and was later sent to Okinawa, Japan and served in Communications. Before he returned home he also taught English to Japanese junior high and high school students for a while. He also had the opportunity to take flying lessons and learned to fly small Aeronca planes that had been built in the 1940’s.

After 1962 he returned home. He visited the World’s Fair in Seattle in October 1962 when they first built the Space Needle (in 1961.) He did various jobs, including working for Seattle Transit as a bus driver. (King County Metro did not start until 1973)

He later met Helen Gertrude Moritz and married her on December 30, 1965. They had their wedding in Burien Chapel in Burien, Washington. They also attended church there for several years until they changed churches in 1987 and went to Renton Assembly of God in Renton for several years. They had four children, Dan Boness (September 1967) Tricia Boness (March 1969), Ruth Boness (March 1971) and Tim Boness (October 1975). They lived in an apartment near Alki beach until they moved into a small red house in Burien, but also temporarily lived in a small house in Hunters Washington when Carl got a teaching job at Columbia School from 1969-1970. They moved in 1980 to a larger four bedroom house in Boulevard Park where they lived until 1994.

Carl did various jobs throughout his life. He worked at Bethlehem Steel for several years from around 1978-the late 1980’s. He worked at some restaurants, including the Space Needle restaurant in Seattle. In the late 1990’s, around 1994-2007 he purchased and managed the Best Sign Post Business delivering real estate signs to different properties.

He attended and served several Christian churches such as Burien Chapel (later named Highline New Life Center), Renton Assembly and Seattle Open Door Church, in Burien. He ministered to many homeless people and allowed them to stay in their home. Some paid small amounts of rent money while others could not afford to pay anything. There were men and women, some single and some were married. Carl would help them out financially with certain needs that they had for food, transportation, or paying their bills, and took them to church. Some stayed in their home up to a year.

Carl also was involved in some ministry opportunities through his church such as a ministry trip to Missouri to help hurricane Katrina victims and a missions trip to Mexico.

He retired when he was around 68 years old and he and his wife Helen sold their condo in Burien and lived in Des Moines, Washington for a while, and then in a house in Tukwila Washington.

Their Son Dan passed away in July 2014 from kidney failure, who was living with them.

They sold their home and moved to an apartment in Burien, then later they moved to a senior housing apartment called Arrow Head Gardens in White Center, while still attending Seattle Open Door Church in Burien, Washington.

They moved to Yardley Arms Apartments in Burien around 2018 and continued to attend Seattle Open Door Church in Burien. Because of health problems, in March 2023, Carl and Helen moved to Abby Care Adult Family Home in Renton, Washington.

Carl Boness had diabetes and heart and kidney problems and passed away on October 21, 2023 at Abby Care AFH in Renton, WA. He was 86 years old. He is in heaven with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but his remains are laid to rest in Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA after the Committal Ceremony on November 14, 2023 at 1:30pm.

He is survived by his wife Helen G. Boness, his sisters Sally and Anne Charbonneau, his son Tim Boness, his daughter Ruth Madeoy, son in-law Matt Madeoy, daughter Tricia Foster, son in-law Ron Torkelson, his grandchildren Jack and July Madeoy and Ryan Torkelson.
