Obituary For Sylvia Ann Corbett

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia “Sib” Ann Jeffers Corbett. Sib passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2020 in Tacoma, WA. She was the youngest of three daughters born to LeRoy Willmar Jeffers and Mary Frances Antoinette Gormley in Miles City, Montana. The Jeffers settled their family in Yakima, WA. Sib attended Yakima High School and was very active in school. Sib married her high school sweetheart, David Barton Corbett, and they raised three boys in Western WA. Through the years, Sib and Dave loved to travel the U.S. and Europe.

Sib was an active parishioner at St. Theresa Catholic Church--volunteering for Grief Ministries, Senior Group Charter Member, and the parish Admin Office. Supporting her beloved husband, Dave, who was a Knight of Columbus member always brought her great joy. She was a devout Catholic “who lived her faith and gave the strength to others to do the same.” In addition, she was a longtime member of the Women’s Club of Federal Way since 2003 including past-Secretary, Book Club and Pinochle groups.

She was known for her loyalty, kindness and thoughtful heart—always welcoming and tolerant of others—she was a “true” friend. Sib had an extraordinary sense of humor, loved word games and was an avid reader. Some of her closest and dearest friends shared: “It was easy to be Sib’s friend”, “She listened with her heart”, “Sib always had the ability to turn the other cheek”, “She could always touch my soul.” Sib will be truly missed by her family and the hundreds of people whose lives she touched.

Thank you to CHI Franciscan Hospice Nurses and her Wesley In-Home Caretakers—you are all angels walking amongst us! She was preceded in death by her son, Michael (Katrina), and her husband, Dave. She is survived by her sons: Ken (Leesa) Corbett of Taylorsville, UT; John (Ann) Corbett of Maple Valley, WA; seven Grandchildren and six Great-Grandchildren.

A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the fall, 2020 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Federal Way, WA.     Sib was a wonderful friend to my Mother, Judy Price, at Norpoint Village. I never had the pleasure of meeting Sib and I'm sorry I didn't. My Mom had been ill and subsequently passed away on April 29th of this year. However, Sib was always a kind and thoughtful friend, even bringing her lasagna from Mom's favorite Olive Garden the week before Mom passed. I had no idea Sib wasn't well herself and here she continued to reach out to my Mom. My Mom so enjoyed their lunch trips to Snoqualmie and other places w/two of the other women from Norpoint Village. I know this special lady is so missed as is my special Mother, Judy. RIP sweet ladies and many blessings to your family, friends and loved ones.

    Aunt Sib was a lovely person, so sweet and kind and always uplifting. She and David raised three wonderful boys and I have many memories of family reunions and visits with the cousins, especially when they lived in the greater Seattle area. She was so gracious and welcoming to us as a family. Her faith was beyond compare and I know she is at peace. Sib has left an impression on so many people who were a part of her life. She left an impression on my family indeed. Mike and I as well as Allison and Lexie send much love to the family. The cousins now remain and I look forward to seeing them in the near future.

    I had an opportunity to take care to sib for close to 4 months we were partners ...consulting each other on what to do each day .She loved her family so dearly and always how gearful she was to them for taking care of her.She could summarize. to me a book she had read.She had a beautiful soul i fell blessed to have been one of her care giver .Rest with the angels sib .

    When we moved to Norpoint Village, Sib was one of the first to make us feel welcome and part of the community. And she was always supportive, in every possible way. One day as I was backing my car into the garage, she stood and watched, then when I shut off the car, she smiled and gave me a thumbs up!

    Don Corbett

    Sylvia Ann Corbett - "Sib" was a dear and wonderful aunt of mine all my life. She was always there to listen, share, and express thoughts, feelings, etc. I have lots of wonderful memories of Sib and Dave's family. The best fun was the Corbett's Reunion on Orcas Island, and every one of us were there including Grandma Betty and her sister - Grand Aunt Wilma. I always remember her lovely smiles and a great sense of humor do uplifting others to smile, to laugh, and to cry and to enjoy life and so on. Sylvia will be missed much but her spirits are there for us and all to remember.
