Obituary For Gordon Otto Jacobsen

Gordon Otto Jacobsen was born on July 29, 1940. He grew up in Burien, Washington, where his family had lived for three generations. Gordon went to Lake Burien Grade School and Sylvester Middle School, and graduated from Highline High School in 1958. He is survived by his children and their families: David and Gabby Jacobsen of Burien, Washington; Yvonne and Greg Mavor of Atlanta, Georgia; and Nicole Wright of Sellersburg, Indiana. He is also survived by his older sister, Betty Aiton, and eight granddaughters: Daisy, Diana, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Morgan, Savannah, Sydney, and Anola. Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen (Kitty) Jacobsen, and his parents, Otto and Frances Jacobsen.

Kitty and Gordon met at an Irish dance in 1969, introduced by their lifelong friends, Mary & Frank Shriane. The two couples, along with several other Irish expats, founded the Irish Club of Seattle. Over the ensuing decades, Gordon and Kitty volunteered countless hours to the Irish Community, including chairing the St. Patrick’s Day Parade for 20 years before passing the torch to his son, David. Despite stepping down from leadership, he continued to participate and volunteer every year afterward. Gordon and Kitty were awarded the Hon. Grand Marshal awards in 2001 for their decades of dedication to the Club. He was especially proud to witness two more generations of Jacobsens contributing to the Irish Heritage Club. His expertise in parades was honed during his 25 years of service with the Seafair Parade Marshals. Together, Gordon and Kitty enjoyed a large group of friends in the Seattle area, opening their home to others whenever needs arose, all the while celebrating life and laughter.

Gordon worked at Hobart Food Equipment for 46 years and became known as one of the best electricians in the business. After retiring, he cared for his wife in her final years, traveled, and spent time with his children, granddaughters and extended family.

After living with Alzheimer’s Dementia for 15 years, Gordon passed away on April 4, 2026, at the age of 85, surrounded by his children.

A memorial service will take place in July 2026. Details will be shared on social media, by word of mouth, and through email.
