Obituary For Ovidio Marquez Hernandez

Ovidio Marquez Hernandez, 71, also known as “Marque” passed away in Kent, WA on January 5, 2022. Ovidio was born on November 16, 1950 in Plainview, Texas. He grew up in Corpus Christi as the fourth child with an older brother, two older sisters and one younger brother. He graduated from Moody High School in Corpus Christi where he was voted Senior Class King and shined as a talented cheerleader. He won several awards for being a great draftsman as well.

After high school, Ovidio joined the US Army and fought in the Vietnam war as a Green Beret in the Special Forces. After completing his military service, he traveled across the 50 states and eventually fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. Marque settled in Seattle, WA where he dedicated his life to serving King County residents as a Metro Transit Operator for over 39 years. He knew every street and address in the surrounding King County area, he was like a walking map, the most reliable GPS. He also attended the University of Washington and studied Journalism in Seattle.

Marque spent 24 years of his life being a devoted partner to Duc My Ha and a highly engaged step father to Khanie Ha. In his spare time, he loved taking the family to enjoy the arts and attending live theatre plays and musicals. He was athletic and enjoyed organizing family outings such as going swimming, playing basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, soccer, running, biking, cross country skiing and hiking. He was a dedicated coach to his step daughter and taught her everything he knew. He volunteered his time to coach her Skyway Little League Baseball and Renton Community Center Basketball teams. He had great playful energy and loved telling stories to entertain his family and friends. He also expressed love through his cooking with his specialities being enchiladas, migas and banana blueberry pancakes. He cared much about his health and his family’s and was always educating himself and sharing what the latest supplements and vitamins to take.

Marque was known to be a generous, compassionate and thoughtful man with a big heart, always willing to help anyone (in need or not). He contributed to his community and was a lifetime donor/member of KUOW/NPR. He always stayed informed by reading the daily newspaper and listening to NPR. He loved listening to folk, rock and classical music, with a special affinity to Simon and Garfunkel. He was a well-rounded fellow. He practiced yoga and stretched daily. He loved riding his motorcycle. You can say he was a collector of sorts whether that was cars, tools, gadgets, books, dvds, you name it, he owned it. He also owned a variety of musical instruments, especially string guitars and enjoyed learning to play each one. He loved to travel. He cared about exercising his brain and would time himself playing Sudoku to keep his mind sharp. He lived a full life and had a profound impact on his family, community and all those he served. He is dearly missed.

The funeral service is scheduled from 1:30-2:00PM on Friday, February 18, 2022 at Tahoma National Cemetery 18600 SE 240th St, Kent, WA 98042. Family and friends are welcome to join.
