Mary Karen Bensen, 77, of Des Moines, Washington passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, in Tacoma, Washington after a short battle with cancer. Mary was born on January 22, 1946, in Seattle, Washington to Ralph and Lois Dietrich. She grew up in Bellingham, Washington and graduated from The Evergreen State College with a Bachelor of Science in Olympia, Washington.

She was a Certified Public Accountant and worked for the State of Washington and the State of Alaska, where she held leadership roles throughout her career. In Her final years she worked as a Healthcare Financial Consultant for the Washington State Hospital Association and the Association of Washington Public Hospital Districts.

Mary enjoyed attending Broadway musicals, visiting art galleries, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Mary is survived by her 2 children: daughter Karen Lomboy and husband Nathan of Des Moines, Washington and son John Bensen and wife Rhonda of Cabot, Arkansas. She loved and adored her 5 grandchildren: Jacob and Elyssa Lomboy and Madelyn, Lauren, and Charlie Bensen. She is also survived by her sisters Margaret Allen, Susan Wood, and Beverly (Mike) Walsh. She was proceeded in death by her parents Ralph Dietrich, Lois and Fredrick Richards and her sister Donna Dietrich McIvor.
