Obituary For Mary Carol Williams
Carol Williams left for the next leg of her journey on October 21, 2023.
She was born Mary Carol Greef to Charles and Mary on November 22, 1932, in Canton, Ohio.
Her family moved to Texas in 1940.
Carol graduated at 16 and went to Amarillo Junior College, where she met Bob Moore. They married in 1951 and had four children: Becky, Merilou, Tracy, and Robby.
They moved from Phillips, TX to Snyder, TX in 1971, where Bob took the head basketball coach position, as well as an English teacher.
They divorced in 1976, and in 1983, Carol met the love of her life, Gaylord Williams. She was working at an oil field supply store, and he was shopping for a polished rod liner wrench.
They married in 1984 and shared 35+ years of love in Sweetwater, Texas.
Gaylord gifted the wrench back to Carol on their 30th wedding anniversary.
Carol loved the Pacific Northwest and moved to the Seattle area in her later years to spend the rest of her life near her daughters.
She was a lifelong staunch Democrat and wanted it known she was quite pleased to live long enough to see the former president be charged for his many crimes.
She was a giving person of kindness, grace, and intelligence, who raised her children and grandchildren to be empathetic and to have compassion for others.
Like her husband Gaylord, who started a food bank called “Gaylord’s Pantry” at the First Methodist Church in Sweetwater, she was a servant for her community.
Volunteering for many jobs like delivering with Meals on Wheels and teaching elementary children to read with the HOSTS program, she ultimately won Volunteer of the Year in 2012.
Her family was very proud when she was awarded Life Master status in the American Contract Bridge League.
Carol and Gaylord attended First Methodist
Church, where she loved her Sunday School friends and enjoyed the class discussions.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and husbands, Bob (1992) and Gaylord (2020).
She is survived by her children Becky (John MacKinnon) Moore, Merilou Hundley, Tracy Moore, and Robby (Brenda) Moore; as well as Gaylord’s children Carolyn Teel, Marilyn (Steve Roberts) McReynolds, and Ronnie (Sue) Williams.
Also, grandchildren Clancy (David May) Hundley, Kris (Ashton ) Moore and Teddy (Ashley) Moore, Kevin Teel (Jeri Ann Blair), Michael (Jaime) Teel, Mark (Julia) Teel, Brandon (Monica) McReynolds, Lindsey McReynolds, Ryan (Kristina) Williams, and Lauren (Kyle) Harper.
And finally, great grandchildren Maddy Moore, Alyss Moore, Ara O’Kelley, Don O’Kelley, Aniston Moore, Ainsley Moore, LaRetta Hundley-May, Brynn Teel, Cyrus McReynolds, Sawyer and Cameron Williams, Sloane and Hannah Harper.
Carol asked that in lieu of flowers, people donate to Gaylord’s Pantry or a food bank of their choice.
Donations for Gaylord’s Pantry can be made by navigating to https://fumcsweetwater.ccbchurch.com/goto/giving (https://fumcsweetwater.ccbchurch.com/goto/giving) and selecting Gaylord’s Pantry for the Designation.
Or you can mail a check to First Methodist
Church at 309 Cedar Street, Sweetwater, Texas 79556.
