Obituary For JoAnn Goodspeed
JoAnn “Jodi” Goodspeed (née Landrum), 87, passed away on October 11, 2024, in Auburn, WA.
Born on February 5, 1937, in Montgomery, Alabama, JoAnn moved to Washington with her family due to her father’s military service in the USAF where she spent the majority of her life dedicated to her family, career, and community.
JoAnn had a vibrant career that began at the Seattle Peterson School of Business, where she taught IBM machine operations from 1957 to 1963. She later served as a clerk and supervisor at Kent Auto Licensing from 1977 to 1992 and co-owned the Jo-li Decoration business from 1986 to 1987. Her commitment to public service was evident in her role as secretary for the KCFPD #14 Fire Commissioner from 1994 to 2000.
A graduate of Lewis Clark High School and the Seattle Peterson School of Business, JoAnn was not only a dedicated professional but also a passionate volunteer. She was integral in organizing and leading the Boot Scootin’ Grannies, a line dancing group that performed at various local events, and played a crucial role in establishing the first fire auxiliary fundraising in North Kitsap to assist victims of medical and fire emergencies.
JoAnn’s creative and caring nature was manifested in her hobbies, which included crafting, painting, sewing, knitting, and playing the piano. A talented artist, she enjoyed working with watercolors and acrylics. She also dedicated 37 years to singing in church choirs and caroling in Seattle hospitals during Christmas.
JoAnn was a member of Trinity Reform Church, where her voice uplifted many.
She is survived by her children, DeAnn, Roger, and Mark; and grandchildren, Caitlin, Caleb, Tyler, Ethan, Kyra, and Ellie. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Nettie; husband, Roger; brother, Wayne; and granddaughter, Victoria.
A private ceremony will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in the coming days followed by a celebration of JoAnn’s life on 16 November at 12 noon at Hope Christian Community Church 632 SW 143rd ST Burien WA 98146.
Her legacy of love, creativity, and community service will continue to inspire those who knew her.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations to Cancer Care Alliance.
