Obituary For Arlyn Fred Bieber

Arlyn Fred Bieber passed away at St Francis Hospital, Federal Way, WA in the early morning hours of January 25, 2022 from congestive heart failure. He was 77 years old. Arlyn was born in Hoven, South Dakota on May 30, 1944 to Fred C. Bieber and Lila (Weisgram) Bieber, the second of three brothers, Harry (older) and Ross (younger). He was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Java, South Dakota. Arlyn spent his younger years working on the family farm near Java and graduated from Java High School in 1962. Arlyn often told stories about his time on the farm and skills he learned that would help him throughout his life. After High School, he attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married Janice June Sonnenfeld, his high school sweetheart on June 12, 1965. Arlyn sported about in a 1958 Red TR3 Triumph convertible roadster and later owned a pushbutton drive DeSoto, just two of the vehicles he was proud to own. After college, Arlyn went to work for Boeing in Seattle, Washington for 4 years. During that time one of the projects he worked on was the Super Sonic Transport (SST). In 1970, he accepted a job with McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1972 Arlyn and Jan moved back to Seattle and Arlyn decided to take his career in a new direction and began doing electrical and carpentry work. In 1977, Janice gave birth to their son, Jay. Arlyn continued to work doing remodeling projects, frequently for friends or for teachers who lived in the Seattle-Tacoma area. It was through this work that he made some of his closest friends. Arlyn was a skilled wood-worker, often making treasured gifts for others, such as small clocks, wine racks and furniture. He had a vast collection of tools and electrical equipment and loved visits to McLendon and Home Depot. His collection of clocks could drive a person with hearing crazy but never bothered him. He enjoyed trips to South Dakota in the summer months to visit with his family and to attend estate auctions to buy collectables and antiques. Jan and Arlyn spent winters in AZ as “snowbirds” for many years. Arlyn enjoyed history and travel and had visited almost all of the 50 states. Together with Jan, they embarked on multiple cruises and adventures in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and Australia. He was also an avid reader and movie enthusiast especially enjoyed Science Fiction. Asimov, Heinlein and Herbert were some of his favorite authors. Arlyn is survived by his wife, Janice, his son, Jay and spouse Victoria (Tower), his two grandchildren, Allie (15) and April (13), his brothers Harry and his wife Virginia (Bismarck, ND) and Ross (Java, SD), niece, Deb Stoppler and nephews, Todd Bieber and Tyler Sonnenfeld. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred (1988) and Lila (2005). A memorial service will be held at All Saints Lutheran Church (27225 Military Rd South, Auburn, WA) on February 1, 2022 at 11:00 AM.

Jan, I am sorry to hear about Arlyn. Arlyn, Dennis and I liked playing together as young cousins when our parents visited at each other’s farms. He was so much fun and had the best toys, too! May our Lord & Savior Jesus comfort you with His amazing love. Mary Ann (Bieber) Mertes get
