Obituary For Thomas Jay Lookabaugh
Thomas “Tom” Jay Lookabaugh passed away on January 11, 2024, at 93, with his daughters by his side. Tom was born June 8, 1930, in Kingsville, Ohio, to Clifford and Rosanna Lookabaugh. He grew up in Ashtabula, Ohio, and graduated from Ashtabula High School. After high school, Tom spent two years in college before enlisting in the Air Force, where he served two years before being honorably discharged.
After leaving the Air Force, Tom began his career with Boeing, which spanned almost four decades where he worked on numerous military and space programs. During his 37 years with the company, he relocated to Cape Canaveral, Florida, to work on the Apollo and Minuteman programs at NASA. Later, he worked on the Alcoa Cruise Missile at Edwards Air Force Base California, the Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) at Tinker Air Force Base Oklahoma, and Geilenkirchen Air Base Germany, before moving to Federal Way, Washington, where he finished his career working on the E6 before retiring.
Tom had an adventurous spirit and loved traveling the world. After retirement, Tom and Anita began their annual tradition of driving across the US to Florida where they would stop to spend time with their children and grandchildren. He always enjoyed meeting and talking to people and loved spending time with his family. Over the three decades that Tom lived in Federal Way, he became involved in the community where he belonged to a walking group, a wine club, and volunteered at the senior center weekly.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Eleanor McGill. He is survived by his loving wife, Anita, of 47 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his seven children, Cynthia A. Evans (John), Sharon R. Burke (Don), Timothy J. Lookabaugh (Joni), Kenneth J. Lookabaugh (Cathy), Betty J. Green, William C. Hudecek (Ginger), and Bruce A. Hudecek (Dorothy), 16 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Center at Norpoint, 4818 Nassau Ave. NE, Tacoma, Washington 98422, on Monday, January 29, 2024, from 1:30-3:30 pm.
