Obituary For Salfrando "Sal" Butler Guffin

Salfrando “Sal” Butler - Newborn Guffin, who entered eternal rest on May 21, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. in Seattle, Washington, at the age of 40.

Born on May 25, 1985, in Memphis, Tennessee, Salfrando was raised in a loving and supportive family environment that encouraged his creativity, intelligence, and passion for life.

Salfrando graduated from Northwestern High School, Hyattsville, Maryland in 2002. He later continued his education in Fine Arts at the Earl C. Clements campus in Kentucky. Gifted both artistically and intellectually, Salfrando pursued his career in Auto mechanics/ Body and Collision repair at Les Swab. His passion for learning led him to become fluent in various languages, including Spanish, Mandarin, German, and Russian.

A talented artist and musician, Sal, found peace and joy in creative expression. Whether drawing detailed artwork or playing melodies on his guitar, he brought comfort, laughter, and light into the lives of others. His gentle spirit, compassion, and sense of humor made him unforgettable to all who knew and loved him.

Salfrando was a devoted Christian who attended New Life Church in Kent, Washington. His faith guided the way he treated others. He was known for his generous heart and willingness to help anyone in need, often offering food, clothing, encouragement, or simply a listening ear. Sal believed deeply in kindness and lived his life with love and compassion for others.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Barbara Goldsmith of Long Beach, Mississippi; his father, Cedric B. Guffin of Memphis, Tennessee; his stepfather, Thor Goldsmith of Long Beach, Mississippi; and his brother, Salaam Goldsmith of Long Beach, Mississippi.

He is also survived by his great-aunt Mary Benton of Memphis, Tennessee; great-aunt Rubie Bradley of Olive Branch, Mississippi; great-aunt Bettie Carter of Olive Branch, Mississippi; his aunt, Persela Butler; and his uncle’s Harold Butler, James C. Butler, and Antonio Jones, all of Memphis, Tennessee; uncle, Bryan Butler of Stone County, Mississippi; uncle, Sergio Butler of Lincoln, Nebraska; uncle, Melvin Newborn of San Diego, California; uncle, Milton Newborn of Denver, Colorado; and uncle, Curtis Newborn of Olive Branch, Mississippi, along with a host of cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Salfrando, preceded in death by his grandmother, Linnie M. Benton Butler; his grandfather, Walter Newborn; his grandmother, Sarah Guffin; his aunts, Lynett Butler, and Angelia Jones; his aunt, Pamela Newborn, and his uncle, Anthony Jones; uncle, Walter Newborn JR.

Salfrando’s life was based on love, faith, creativity, generosity, and compassion. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, the memories he created and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

May Salfrando “Sal” Butler Guffin rest peacefully in God’s eternal grace, forever remembered and forever loved.
