Obituary For Gerald Ray Parkinson

Gerald “Jerry” Parkinson passed away the morning of January 27, 2022. He was born May 1, 1948 in Beaver, Utah to his parents, Delmar and Verda Parkinson. He grew up in Beaver and lived there until he graduated from Beaver High School in 1966. He visited his siblings in the Seattle area and never went back. It was while he was in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Northwest that he met the love of his life, Virginia “ Ginny ” Layton. They were married on February 15, 1969 and were together until the time of her passing. Jerry worked as a counterperson in auto parts stores for his entire career, even owning his own store for a while. He worked until he had his second stroke and then very reluctantly retired. He loved to collect coins and go to garage sales, thrift stores and antique stores. His last four years he lived with his daughters, Missy and Dana. Jerry was known for his kind heart and his love of serving others. He loved his family with everything he had, and they always came first. He was always willing to lend a hand to any neighbor or family member who needed something done. If there was a car hood up in the neighborhood, you would find him under it. He had an analytical mind and a great love of mechanic s and shared his knowledge freely. Jerry was a kind soul, always trying to get a laugh. He loved to tease people just to see them smile. He also loved hugs, especially from his children and grandchildren. For the past six months, he and Missy delivered Meals on Wheels to older persons and the disabled. This brought him pleasure and gave him a sense of serving again. Jerry is preceded in death by his wife Ginny, his daughter Melonie, his parents and 7 siblings. He is survived by his daughters Missy (Tom) and Dana, grandsons Oscar, Jonathan and Justin (Heather), granddaughters Elizabeth (Houston), Debbie (Daniel), 4 great-grandchildren, his sisters Trena (Garry) and Mary ( Keith) of Beaver, UT and many nieces and nephews. Due to the current health situation, the family is choosing not to have a memorial at this time. An oceanside memorial will be held on May 1, 2022 in Grayland, Washington.
