Obituary For Caryl Glickman
Caryl was a smart, funny, upbeat and caring woman. She was beautiful on the inside as well as the outside, and a joy to know. Married to Adam Glickman for 33 years, she loved his sons Charlie and Tom, daughter-in law Elizabeth Rowan and grandson Forrest as if they were her own. She was also very close to her two sisters, Maddy Ginsberg and Sheila Ginsberg, as well as her forever childhood friend Hedy Migden. The family is heartbroken at her sudden loss but grateful she is at peace.
Caryl was born in Brooklyn before it was fashionable, grew up in the New York area and attended Cornell University and Wheaton College where she earned a Masters Degree in Education. That was her first love and she pursued it for many years, focusing on early childhood education. Then she was bitten by the IT bug and made a career change to systems programming and project management. She was a successful manager who loved to mentor others.
Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in her 40’s, she never let the disease get her down. She became an expert in its treatment and worked hard to make sure it interfered as little as possible in her life. She was active in a number of support groups and helped others conquer the symptoms of the disease.
She loved to read, travel, play bridge and was just starting to learn MahJongg. She would have been great at it as she was at everything she attempted. She made friends wherever she went.
No flowers, please, but if you wish to honor her memory consider a donation to Planned Parenthood, plannedparenthood.org or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, nationalmssociety.org

Devasted…I like others who mentioned this, Caryl and I, we could go months between conversations, and yet we could pick up where we left off, no matter how long it had been. Caryl watched me and often gave sage advice to me while raising my children. I cried so deeply when I recently found out of her passing. Similar to what we have always done, I picked up the phone to call during the recent holidays and discovered the news. I will always love and miss her. Late but sincere condolences to the family. —Karen Rucker

Caryl was a long time member of our Orange County (Irvine/Lake Forest) MS Warriors Support Group. She was our faithful group leader for several years until she moved to the East Coast. I don’t recall her ever missing our in person meetings. She was a uniter who came up with the MS Warriors name for our support group. Even after moving to North Carolina, she made it a point to stay connected with us and remained a faithful attendee of our zoom meetings all the way through July 9. She blessed us with her presence, for the last time, at our July 9 morning monthly zoom meeting. On that day she was in good spirits, was tending to her husband’s recovery from a recent hospital visit and said she was feeling well- no complaints other than the toll that aging continued to take on her. She shared news that she was moving from North Carolina to Washington State that weekend. We were happy to hear that she was moving to be closer to family. Caryl will be deeply missed. She will remembered, by our group members, for her kind heart, her always welcoming demeanor, being a great listener and learner and for her incredible determination. Her ever present wit, sense of humor and colorful personality (inclusive of her colorful hair) lifted the spirits of all around her and in her path. In spite of the challenges she faced, she could always make lemonade out of lemons! May peace and comfort be with her husband and family during this difficult time. Our deepest condolences. Our hearts overflow with gratitude for all her contributions and her legacy will live on forever. She was a true MS Warrior! -Tiffany Craft

We were high school sweethearts who remained close for the following 60 years. Our traditions continued until their sudden, heartbreaking, and unexpected conclusion. Never missing birthday calls and cards, (who could forget the numbers 7/11!) regular intermittent catch-up calls, and occasional visits throughout the decades. We shared our lives vicissitudes, joys and sorrows as loving, trusted and trusting friends. Even as a boy Caryl taught me the value of love and commitment; and that we were worthy of both. Her relentless wit and good humor, infectious laughter, sharp intelligence, and courage living with her advancing illness were a constant source of inspiration, admiration and wonder to me. We spoke just days before her passing and planned to touch base again soon. We ended that call, as we always did for 60 years.. She said: “I love you” and I responded: “I love you too.” Her final gift to me…I will miss her…as we all will. My heartfelt condolences to Maddy and Sheila (who remain in my mind as they were in 1965!) And of course Adam too…

Losing Caryl was like losing a part of myself. As kids. we did everything together. Later, we could go months, even longer. between conversations, and yet we could pick up where we left off, no matter how long it had been. No matter the adversity she faced in her own life, she always had time to truly listen. She came to my 60th birthday, my mom’s funeral, my son’s wedding. She was humble, smart, witty, and utterly unpretentious. I miss her more than words can express. Gone too soon, but how much richer my life, for having such a dear, true friend. Sending love to Sheila and Maddy. Hedy

Caryl was the smartest, funniest, and kindest person I’ve ever known. She never shared her pain and always kept smiling and helping others. Not a single day has gone by without thinking about her or missing her deeply. I never imagined someone could touch my heart so profoundly. She left a part of herself in everything she did for me. She will always be missed and will remain in our hearts forever. Our heartfelt condolences to the family. 🙏 Dipti
