Obituary For Marian Richardson
We announce with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived that Marian Richardson, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and matriarch, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, at the age of 91.
Marian was born on December 27, 1934, in Michigan, and from the very beginning lived a life centered on faith, family, and service to others. As the wife of a military serviceman, she followed her husband wherever duty called, making homes across the world. No matter where she lived, Marian created warmth, stability, and a sense of belonging. Later in life, she settled in University Place, where she became a treasured member of the community and a friend to many.
Marian shared 70 years of marriage with the love of her life, Benito Richardson, before his passing in 2000. Their marriage was built on devotion, faith, laughter, and an unshakable commitment to family. She was a devoted and loving mother to Michael and Juanita, and nothing brought her more joy than being “Mom.” She was a proud grandmother to Michael, Isaac, Benito, Florence, and Talayna, and a deeply cherished great-grandmother to Devasia, Bre, Eli, Isaac, Kaiden, Aniya, E’mari, Janett, and Samiah. Each child held a special place in her heart, and she took great pride in watching her family grow. She was also a loving mother-in-law to Cindi, and a cherished grandmother-in-law to Binnie, Lole, and EJ.
Marian’s love extended far beyond our family. She formed lifelong friendships through Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and she faithfully served her church family as a volunteer at First Baptist Church of Lakewood, where her servant’s heart was evident in everything she did. At her retirement home, Marian was affectionately known as “Marian the Librarian.” She loved sharing books, stories, and conversation, and she found joy in connecting with others every single day.
To us, Marian was gentle yet strong, spunky, kind, and quietly funny. She listened without judgment, loved without limits, and lived her faith daily. Her wisdom, compassion, and unwavering belief in God shaped our family and will continue to guide us.
We will miss her more than words can express, but we are forever grateful for the love she gave, the lessons she taught, and the example she set. Her legacy lives on in each of us and in every life she touched.
