Recent Obituaries

Dolores was born April 28, 1930, in Eastern South Dakota, on a small farm outside of Cavour- the youngest child of Raymond and Effie Walter. They both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her older brother, Arland, “Buddy” Walter, and her older sister Marene Flyger. The 3 of them grew up together in the 30’s during the Great Depression Growing up, she developed strong values of honesty and hard work. She instilled those values in her children, which later made her the perfect feminine counterbalance to her husband Slim.

Dolores Busskohl was a strong, resilient, independent woman and sharp as a whip. Even into her 90s, she kept her independence and her wit. She was a homemaker and an extraordinary artist. Her hobbies included antiques, ceramics, cross-stitch, sewing, crotchet, cooking, camping, bowling, playing cribbage, bridge, and growing flowers. For several years, she worked with her husband Slim, painting very detailed and beautiful wooden craft pieces, which they showcased in many craft shows throughout western Washington.

She was a passionate Seattle Super Sonics and Seahawks fan. She was also a deceptively savvy investor in the stock market. She was a wonderful cook and always served healthy and delicious meals for her family. Going shopping with her was always a unique experience, to say the least.

February 17, 2022, at 8:15 p.m. Eastern time, she left this physical plane to be reunited with her husband, Herman “Slim” Busskohl, and her son, Mark Kaplan. She was laid to rest at Maple Valley Hobart Cemetery on March 23, 2022, next to her son, Mark Kaplan.

She had four children, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She is survived by 3 of her four children: Rosalyn Kaplan, Jeffrey Kaplan, and Stewart Kaplan. 7 Grandchildren: David Kaplan, Jonathan Kaplan, Jessie Salopek, Tennyson Salopek Jacobson, Rory Kaplan, Ronen Kaplan, and Mia Kaplan. 9 Great Grandchildren: Maverin Kaplan, Ivy Kaplan, Aislin Kaplan, Lyla Jacobson, Skyler Jacobson, Idalia Kaplan, Theron Kaplan, Cherié Kaplan, and Layton Kaplan
