Obituary For Anthony Lee Sam

Our beloved Anthony “Tony” Lee Sam passed away peacefully on his birthday May 20, 2019 at his home in Kent, Washington. He was born May 20, 1953 at the Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii to Vivian and Lionel Sam.

Anthony’s family moved to Compton, CA where he grew up. Upon returning to Seattle, WA, he graduated from Garfield High School in 1971. He was active in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), joined the Job Corp, and enlisted in the Air Force where he served as a Fire Protection Specialist and firefighter. Anthony was awarded the United States Marine Corp Service Award for an additional 10 years of service after his discharge from the Air Force. He was very proud of his service to his country and was well-informed about our country’s history. Anthony was currently volunteering at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Seattle, escorting patients until his unexpected death. Anthony loved Randy, his significant other for 22 years. He always said “God blessed me with a good woman”. Together they went dancing, watched movies, kick boxed and took many long walks. He loved music, especially jazz with saxophone and making song mixes. Anthony was a stylish dresser in his own unique way. He always wore a vest and hat and fashionably layered his clothes. He carefully redesigned, painted and cut shapes into his many baseball caps. He was passionate about motorcycles and cars, could name any vehicle part and rebuilt his Pontiac Fiero. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed basketball, NASCAR, football and boxing. His unfulfilled dream was to be a boxer and boxing manager. He loved animals and could identify birds and all the dog breeds. He was preceded in death by his mother Vivian Sam and father Lionel Sam. Surviving is his loving partner Ms. Randy Adams; sons, Cedric Sam, Lionel Sam and Anthony Jr. Marksbury; brother, Lawrence (Patricia) Sam; Aunt Vera McCoy, Aunt Helen Sam; and many beloved stepbrothers, stepsisters, nieces, nephews and cousins.
