Obituary for Christopher James Edward Bleavins

Christopher J.E. Bleavins passed away on February 17th at the age of 37.

Sgt. Bleavins enlisted into the U.S. Army as a combat engineer. He served alongside his fellow soldiers for two tours in Iraq and one to Afghanistan. As a decorated war veteran, Chris honorably retired in 2015.

Chris may have been private and quiet about his emotional struggles with PTSD. It may have shaped the way he lived but it will not define him. He is no longer tormented by the demons in his head.

His family encourages others suffering from PTSD to reach out for help. You are not alone and should not have to fight alone.

I never got to see you much as I would've liked but you were one of my best influences in life, my mom's cousin but you were mine as well. I'll never forget the barbeque at Scott's house I got to see you and the rest of the family. I love you so much and I hope you're at peace with yourself.

Been thinking about you every day, most of the day. I've thought about everything from every angle I could possibly see it. Just know, that you always have my unconditional love and there had better be an afterlife for all of us to meet again. You left a positive impact on many of us and your inspiration is far from over. When times get tough, I'll just pull from you and push through to honor your memory. You are the man, always were the man and will always be, the man. Love you brother. Rest easy.

Chris' passing leaves such a hole that must seem like it can never heal. We share in your grief and loss, but cannot begin to fully appreciate the depths of pain and devastation you must feel. Hold tight to the good memories to help you find your way along the path of grief. We wish we could reach out and hold you, and somehow make it easier. The memory of playing together with the water rocket launcher Bruce made for Chris and Matt some 25 years ago brings a smile to our faces. Filling the bottles, launching the rockets and getting soaked in your front yard was great fun. Those were happy times and we cherish those memories. Thank you, Chris. Rest in peace. Love, Bruce and Betty.

I spent a lot of time with Chris and the Bleavins family when I was younger. Chris was also cracking jokes, being goofy and making people laugh. I'm so sad to hear of his passing and send my love and thoughts to his wife and sons. X

Polly and Mack and all who love Chris, our connection is from one who also left this world way too soon. You are so special to Henry and I. May the angels sing Chris to Paradise. May he meet our Frankie at the gates of Heaven. We are so so sorry. Love to all of you! All our love, Jackie and Henry Loret de Mola

I'm sorry your gone and that I never got to see you as a grown-up. My heart aches for the family and friends who knew and loved you best. I hope your at peace. Memories are all I can really write and they help ease the pain beat to me so here are a few that have surfaced the past few days. The first time I heard your sister call you "Kisseyfur" I squealed with delight. It was the cutest thing I had ever heard. Another memory. You were driving in the passenger seat of my first car and I was pulling out onto Central Ave. from Mi Amore's. I drove for 2 seconds on the wrong side of the road and you had your knees up screaming like a girl. You never let me drive you anywhere again. One time you were playing music off the computer at your parents house and you suddenly got up and started singing and dancing to "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell. It was the one and only time you reminded me entirely of your Mom. Love always, EC

My favorite memory of Chris was when he was about 13 or 14 years old. We were hanging out at his home with Rachael and Desi and Matthew. I had dared him to ride his skateboard down the stairs and not one to back down from a dare he did. He ended up with a broken leg but it was something I got to tease him about everytime I saw him throughout the years. He was a very brave and courageous man and he will be deeply be missed by all who knew him!

Oh the memories I have: like when he threw the pencil at me when they lived on base and it just stood straight up from my leg. The look on his face was like oh shit I better run. So Rachael and I chased him till mom yelled at us because dad was sleeping. Love you little bro
